The Sierra Club's Executive Director Transition Committee, which I chair, has retained the executive serach firm Isaacson, Miller. The principals on our search will be David Bellshaw and Karen Wilcox -- here's a description of their simple, but disciplined search process.

The search is divided into five phases:

• Understanding the Challenge,
• Networking & Screening of Prospective Candidates,
• Narrowing the Field,
• Selecting Finalists and Checking References, and
• The Final Choice. 
  

In the initial phase, the Executive Director Transition Committee — assisted by its search consultants from Isaacson, Miller — is soliciting input from the Sierra Club community regarding expectations for the new executive eirector and their perspectives on the profile of an ideal candidate. This information will be confidential, shared only with the committee and the recruiters, and it will help inform the writing and review of the position profile. I am asking you to help.
