Thank You Nancy
Another post from Emanuel Figueroa.
I have signed numerous petitions asking the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, to protect the Artic National Wildlife Refuge, raise fuel economy standards and invest in clean and renewable energy. Today, I want to take some time before Congress is back in session to thank her for all her work because sometimes it is not easy being green...
Squeezed by high gas prices, Americans want all energy options on the table and friends of Big Oil are proposing that we drill, drill and drill while Big Oil enjoys enormous government tax breaks and record profits.
Last month, a bi-partisan "Gang of 10" senators floated a proposal for increased drilling, and the House Republicans staged a “floor show” calling for Congress to come back in session to solve this energy crisis (that to some extent they created). When Pelosi offered a deal that includes renewable energy measures, they seemed to back down from the urgency of their request for action.
For months prior to the August recess, House Republicans have been voting against releasing oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and cracking down on speculation to bring down the price at the pump. Now they are requesting that new compromise legislation moves through a lengthy mark-up process rather than introducing a fast-track comprehensive energy legislation straight to the floor in September, which will delay the vote on energy for weeks, even months – perhaps because they think this “bluff” will help them with the elections.
Thank you Nancy Pelosi for standing up to Big Oil and making sure that we don’t drill our way into a bigger problem, thanks for knowing that drilling is not a solution. Thanks for envisioning a future that moves America forward with clean and renewable energy. Don’t give up; continue protecting our Coasts from drilling by pushing for drilling in the 68 million acres of land already leased to Big Oil, and keep proposing solutions the stronger fuel economy standards that America needs to achieve energy independence.
If you want to say thanks and show some love to one of our champion legislators sign on to this petition.
