A Dim Policy
Yesterday, Congressman Joe "Sorry BP" Barton proposed legislation that would roll back our energy efficiency policy and repeal the phase-out of antiquated, inefficient light bulbs. House Energy and Commerce committee Chair Fred Upton, Barton's former rival for the chairmanship, "teamed up with California Democratic Rep. Jane Harman on 2007 legislation aimed at phasing out the use of incandescent light bulbs in favor of more energy efficient bulbs," according to Politico.
So what does Rep. Barton have against energy efficiency? Why does he love BP so much?
Lots of other questions remain. Sierra Club has some answers…
Q: How many Joe Barton's does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Two. One to declare that light bulb choice is an issue of national importance, and one to apologize to BP...again.
Q: How many Fred Upton's does it take to change a light bulb?
A: He used to be able to but now the light bulb is stuck, because he’ll only turn it to the right.
Q: How many politicians does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Two. One to change it and one to change it back.
Q: How many congressional climate deniers does it take to change a light bulb?
A: One, but first s/he will have to hold a hearing on the science of whether light bulbs really exist.
Q: How many BP executives does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Many have tried, but so far they all keep breaking it and blaming it on someone else. But they might try a "top kill."
Q: How many Big Oil CEOs does to take to change a light bulb?
A: None. Instead, they line the pockets of lobbyists and their friends in Congress to make sure it stays broken.
