DC City Council Votes to Move Ahead on Solar Power Initiative

A measure that would allow District residents to have better access to solar energy regardless of where they live or how much money they make was approved by a committee of the District of Columbia city council on Wednesday, July 3. Previously, only people who owned homes with rooftops in the sun could benefit from solar energy. If approved by the full council later this summer, this initiative would change that.

Sierra Club Interns attended the City Council meeting to show their support for the legislation

A diverse working group dedicated to clean energy and solar technology -- including members from the DC chapter of the Sierra Club -- championed this legislation that would help everyone in the District have the opportunity to use affordable, renewable, local solar energy from off-site solar panels through virtual electrical metering.
