
With the support of the James and Aune Nelson Foundation, Sierra Club’s voice for conservation in southern Illinois has become one of the most highly regarded and respected in the region. Using funds awarded in July 2009, the Illinois Chapter secured support of new allies for wilderness protection in the Shawnee National Forest, organized outings to remove garlic mustard, conducted inventories of invasive plant species, and generated opposition to dirty coal projects.
