You may be familiar with award-winning writer-director Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man) and still not have come across Where the Green Ants Dream. Even many in Australia, where the film unfolds, don’t know about this German-language masterpiece.

In it, Herzog does an admirable job of juxtaposing an aboriginal culture’s lifestyle and beliefs with the fact that their holiest place, "where the green ants dream," is threatened by a mining company’s plans to extract uranium.

A revolt starts when tribal members feel that they must protect their holy grounds – or else, their civilization, and the earth itself, will perish because of a culture that seems to want everything but understands nothing. The strikingly beautiful images of the stark Australian landscape add to the genius of this must-see film.
