Still Important: Despite the recent hullabaloo over healthcare, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar affirmed yesterday that the Obama administration expects the Senate to pass climate-change legislation in the near future. Reuters

Cetacean Semantics: After Iceland received widespread criticism for killing 94 fin whales, commonly considered to be endangered, Iceland responded that its annual hunt is “sustainable.” Dot Earth (NYT)

New Critters: An international team of scientists have discovered some 40 new species, including what may be the world’s largest rat, in an isolated volcanic crater on Papua New Guinea. The Guardian

More Proof: New geological research from Arctic sediment strongly suggests that climate change was indeed caused by humans; increased ice melt started happening right after the Industrial Age. Los Angeles Times

Pay the Green: The Maldives, threatened by rising sea levels and predicted submersion by 2100, is proposing a new $3-per-day environment tax on tourists to help the low-lying island nation become the world's first carbon-neutral country. ENN
