A Vocal Opponent: Radiohead's Thom Yorke Takes on Tar Sands
In February, we reported that Canada's big oil companies are clear-cutting ancient forests to extract oil from the sand beneath. We also told of the Sierra Club’s campaign to halt this destructive practice (aside from devastating the land, tar-sands oil is the most harmful type for the atmosphere).
Recently, Thom Yorke, the lead singer of Radiohead, has joined the chorus of protesters. He’s been blogging against the practice on the band’s site. His latest post warns fans that their pensions may be invested in tar-sands projects and urges them to take action.
