The Sierra Club's New iPhone App Encourages Eco-Heroism

Sierra Club's new iPhone app Earth Day's 40th anniversary is fast approaching. To honor the occasion, the Sierra Club has launched its first iPhone app, called "Eco Hero." Users pledge to do one of five green actions, such as toting reusable bags to the market or planting a tree, to become "eco-heroes." A map shows how many people have signed up by state, and users can challenge friends to make their own pledges via Facebook, Twitter, and email.

We know that being green is its own reward, but users of this app become eligible to win an all-inclusive trip to Hawaii, the highlight of which is a tour of Volcanoes National Park.

Late adopter? You can still be an eco-hero (and enter the sweepstakes) by signing up on the app's web version and making your pledge.
