Glacial Erratic: A USGS ecologist announced yesterday that Glacier National Park has lost two more major glaciers due to climate change. He expects the ice may disappear entirely by 2020. San Francisco Chronicle

Get the Lead Out: Beginning two weeks from today, the EPA will require any contractor working on a house built before 1978 to be certified in lead safety protocol. USA Today

Cash for Coal: The company supplying nearly all of South Africa's electricity earned approval for a $3.75 billion loan from the World Bank to build what will be one of the world's largest coal power plants. BusinessWeek

No Laughing Matter: According to a recent study, melting permafrost in northern Canada and Russia releases large amounts of nitrous oxide (a greenhouse gas), creating a feedback loop that exacerbates climate change. ENN

Oil Obstruction: A Texas oil company donated $500,000 to fund a ballot measure that would interrupt the enactment of AB32, a California law meant to significantly curb the state's greenhouse-gas emissions. New York Times
