One Down: According to BP, one of its three oil leaks has been shut off, leaving two larger ones to go. However, the amount of oil being released remains the same: 210,000 gallons per day. New York Times

Fueling Momentum: Environmentalists predict that the oil disaster will serve to help Obama push through the stalled climate bill. Los Angeles Times

Cool School: Officials at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill announced that they will end coal use on campus by 2020. UNC

Not So Cheap: Wal-Mart agreed to pay $27.6 million to settle a lawsuit alleging that the company violated California laws governing the transport and dumping of pesticides, chemicals, and other hazardous materials. Los Angeles Times

Dangers of Oil: A fuel truck exploded at an oil refinery in San Antonio, Texas, setting off smaller blasts and causing dense pollution over parts of the city. The driver is missing, another person was critically burned, and more than 100 firefighters were on the scene. NPR
