Green Your Yoga: Buy Less
With its emphasis on living mindfully, yoga teaches us to tread lightly on Mother Earth. This week's tips explore how yogis can get more out of their practice by minimizing their environmental footprints.
Tip #1: Buy less
From 2004 to 2008, the number of yogis in the U.S. decreased by about 4%, while the money spent annually on yoga products and services nearly doubled to $5.7 billion. Buying more and consuming more natural resources isn't very yoga-like. Don't replace your yoga equipment until it needs replacing, and reconsider the cute new yoga pants if you already have a pair. Instead of buying instructional DVDs and books, borrow them from the library.
