Green Fashion Monday: Knots & Stones
On Fashion Monday, we highlight a hip, green fashion item. Got a stylish eco-friendly product to recommend? Tell us about it and look for it in an upcoming blog post.
Andrea Rodriguez-Tarazi founded Knots & Stones, a company that makes colorful, unique jewelry from natural materials such as the tagua nut. A visit to her native Colombia inspired her to bring some of the traditional seed jewelry back home to New York City. “It was a win-win situation. I could create beautiful jewelry while promoting traditional handicrafts and providing both a source of income for native communities and an incentive to protect our rainforests”, she said.
Many of the pieces retain their natural hues of deep orange and red. Rodriguez-Tarazi often uses fragrant materials like coffee beans and orange peel in her designs because she wants her jewelry to provide a connection to the natural world that’s lacking in most of our daily lives.
