Jean-ius Kitchen Crafts: Pocket Magnet

We've all got that one pair of deteriorated jeans that we can't bear to toss. Sure, you could donate them or give yourself a clothing makeover, but since denim is such a strong fabric, why not put those pants to work? This week, we'll show you how to make four jean-ius kitchen accessories from one old outfit.

Craft #2: Pocket Fridge Magnet

Ever find yourself struggling to find a pen in a cluttered catch-all drawer? Slap this handy magnetic pocket on your refrigerator door and slip a few pens inside. Problem solved.

Supplies:

scissors
fabric glue
a pair of old jeans
a couple of magnets
a gift box or cardboard

Directions:

Cut the back pocket out of your pair of jeans. Make sure you cut it around the seam line, and do not rip the seam from the seat of the pants.

Next, find something hard to use as a backing for your magnet. We used an old clothing gift box. Trace the shape of your pocket on to your backing material, cut it out, and glue your jean pocket to the material you've just cut out.

Finally, grab some old magnets from your fridge and repurpose them into a useful new magnet. Try to use two or three stronger magnets if you have them. The magnets used on this particular pocket were not very strong (like the magnets you get with a pizza delivery) so we cut up two magnets and glued them on to the back like so.
