Jean-ius Kitchen Crafts: Pot Holder

We've all got that one pair of deteriorated jeans that we can't bear to toss. Sure, you could donate them or give yourself a clothing makeover, but since denim is such a strong fabric, why not put those pants to work?  This week, we'll show you how to make four jean-ius kitchen accessories from one old outfit.

Craft #4: Denim Pot holder

Instead of improvising with towels to pull a hot pot or tea kettle off the stove, use this repurposed denim pot holder. 

Supplies:

• scissors
• fabric glue
• a pair of old jeans
• 1-2 hand towels (depending on thickness)
• a needle and thread

Directions:

Cut a generous-size square around the back pocket of the pair of jeans. It's easiest to cut along the seams when you can, demonstrated in the image below. Then trace and cut out an equal-size square out of the leg portion of your jeans. 

Use fabric glue to hold together two sides of the pot holder, making sure to fold the edges in to keep the fabric from fraying and create cleaner lines along your potholder. Take your old hand towel(s) and cut into slightly smaller pieces. Then you will stuff your pot holder with the hand towel(s) to provide an extra layer of protection.

Continue to glue and seal up the other two sides of your pot holder, then sew along the edges, particularly the corners, to make sure that your pot holder is completely sealed. Let it sit at least 24 hours before your first use to make sure that the glue has completely dried. 

Voila, you've got yourself a pot holder!
