A Clean Energy Future to All, and to All a Good Night!

With the accelerating breakup of the Arctic ice pack due to global warming, Santa Claus faces the very real prospect that he will have to relocate his famous workshop to a continental landmass further south. "It's clear that human activity is a major factor in causing global warming," says Claus," but we can turn this thing aroundthat's why I'm in New Hampshire. We're doing our part at the North Pole by getting more of our electricity from renewable sources and weaning ourselves off dirty coal and oil."

But seriously…

The Salvation Army volunteer above was photographed this month in Concord, the state capital. The Sierra Club is making sure the issue of global warming is elevated to the national stage as the Granite State's January 8 presidential primary nears. Below, student activists Nick Lemelin and Madison Daniels post flyers in downtown Concord. Lemelin, a student at New Hampshire Technical Institute, got involved with the Club as part of a student project and stayed on as a volunteer activist after the project was over. Daniels is doing her senior project at Concord High School learning about grassroots organizing with the Club.

"We've never had a better chance to send the message to our national leaders that we need immediate action to combat global warming," says New Hampshire Sierra Club organizer Marie Bergen. The Club is working with hundreds of volunteers at candidate events around the state to drive home the message that the time for a clean energy future is now. They will continue to deliver that message at key polling places on Primary Day. Learn more about the Club's New Hampshire Primary Campaign, and what you can do to help promote smart energy solutions.
