For quite some time, I wasn’t really sure what FRACKING meant, and oh how ignorance is bliss! Moving to Pennsylvania I was thrust into an area immediately impacted by hydraulic fracturing for natural gas. It did not take me long to figure out, FRACKING IS A MAJOR PROBLEM!
With OVER 7, 725 ACTIVE WELLS[KH1] and almost 3,000 VIOLATIONS hydraulic fracturing is a HUGE concern! Pennsylvania is on a path to unlivable circumstances. Some may accuse me of being overly dramatic, but with undrinkable water, life is not an option.
Drilling beneath the water table and fracturing rock formations to release natural gas is not going to happen without incident, and the results are likely to be of disastrous proportions. In fact, these disasters are already happening and people are already suffering! Just one of many unfortunate examples, Dimock, PA [KH2] is a community severely impacted by fracking. Dangerous quantities of methane and other hazardous chemicals were found in drinking water around Dimock, and bottled water was shipped in, by necessity. How many more areas have to experience a state of emergency before truth is realized?
As a community member and activist, it is my number one PRIORITY to make sure hydraulic fracturing is controlled with the most stringent of standards and that Natural Gas DOES NOT replace coal-fired power as a “cleaner alternative.” This problem needs to be addressed yesterday, and I will not rest until human life is held at a higher value than fossil energy!
Not all I do is say NO to dirty energy and money. I also say YES, to efficiency and good investments!
Wind is a great example of a GOOD INVESTEMENT in a homegrown, sustainable electricity choice!
Pennsylvania has the right tools for a renewable energy future through wind power! After all, THIS IS STEEL COUNTRY. With some modifications, even more steel facilities could push out WIND technology. I say “even more” because, there are already 15 facilities manufacturing parts for windmills in Pennsylvania. This is just one state, of many, with manufacturing and generating facilities. This industry[KH3] is growing, evolving, and creating good jobs for local people.
So, let’s not Frack That! Instead, let us be active and ensure safety and prosperity in our futures! Stand with innovation and investment in renewables, and firmly say NO to continued destruction.
This is a great inspiring article. I am pretty much pleased with your good work. You put really very helpful information. Keep it up.
